Palunawack - A word without a fixed definition. May be used as an exclamation, adjective or noun to describe something of particular excellence, interest or frustration much like a profanity.

Created in 1998 during a word-search mishap, due to a combination of over-enthusiasm, missing tubas and music teachers living in the 70s.

Awesome stuff: How It Should Have Ended

Another new feature of the Chronicles to help break up the endless reams of existential crisis is Awesome stuff.

It's exactly what it sounds like. Stuff I stumbled across that is awesome. Enjoy.

Alleyway dining: Sista Bella

Back in the day when I arrived back home in Melbourne at the end of 2009, I realised that I now knew some European cities better than my own home town. So I started exploring the back alleys, cafes, and strange underground restaurants of Melbourne.

Man did I find some awesome stuff.

So this bit of the Chronicles is dedicated to that stuff: the hidden gems of Melbourne. Hidden places around town where no cafe has a right to be, but where the best ones are. Think of it as compensation for putting up with my philosophy rants.

Alleyway dining: Sista Bella's

Sista Bella is the sister-bar of the legendary and now-destroyed St Jeromes, and just like St Jeromes, it's a serious hole in the wall bar, specialising in cheap beer, friendly service an absolutely kick arse atmosphere.

Probably the most notable thing about Sista Bellas is how hard it is to find; explorers will have to travel down not one, but two alleyways and explore behind a stack of fairly disgusting bins to find the secluded doorway. It's amazing anyone ever found the place to begin with.

Hell, why would you even want to find it?

The joys of hypocrisy

Yeah so this whole ‘writing a new article once a week’ intention has lasted about as long as I expected it to. One week. But my new years resolution was to worry less, so instead of my usual approach (stressing, procrastinating to avoid the stress, stressing proportionally more) I present to you the third instalment of the newly renovated Plaunawack Chronicles!

I’ve decided to try and keep these things shorter. The last time I tried this was with the Palunawack Tours and it did not go very well. The January edition was a series of dot-points. The December edition took so long to type up that I actually had to finish it after arriving back in Australia, and if printed, could serve as a makeshift murder weapon.

Hell, just look at this post. I’m not even out of the introduction yet and it’s already 3 paragraphs long.

So what’s short, entertaining, thought-provoking and popular? Buggered if I know, so you get a post about hypocrisy.

A plague upon your house sir!

Sometimes the universe just seems to be getting a kick out of messing me around.

Sure, these are all first world problems, and when you suffer a series of small, irritating set backs then you're best to soldier on and quit your whining.

But then you're suddenly confronted with a serious problem; a problem requiring quick communication, accessible information and speedy transport to resolve safely. A problem that, if mishandled, could end with you running around the neighborhood, waving your hands around your head and screaming incoherently about wasps.

And then you realise that all those little irritations have combined to set you up perfectly, absolutely perfectly, to be helpless to fix this problem. Incoherent wasp screaming is now all but certain and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

The Palunawack is Back.

So where the hell have I been? Good question. For the life of me it feels like I've been in a constant state of meaning to update this blog for the last 2 years. Actually touching it again is quite the freaky experience.

Over the last two years a lot of things have happened which I feel like I was watching on a screen. I suspect this is not a healthy way to live one's life, so I figure it's time to take back control, quit waiting and just be awesome.

So the Palunawack is back. And diversified! Instead of the irregular philosophical rant, I've decided to dedicate this blog to all the awesome things in life that I enjoy.

Food, Melbourne dining, Music, Writing, Hilarity, Cleverness, Hiking, Outdoors, Nature and of course, philosophy. No you can't get away from it. Being a psudo-intellectual pain in the arse is now a core part of the ol' personality so you better get used to that fast.

Palunawack is back. And to kick us off, enjoy the next post which features me being attacked by a swarm of wasps, destroying my iphone, and being accidentally held hostage by a bike lock.
